| Secretary Vilsack was not suggesting that food sapmts are a substitute for jobs, only that if the Republicans were successful at cutting the food stamp program, many people would be out of work providing what the food sapmts buy. Every bit of the food stamp money is cycled into the economy.President Obama should have heeded the economists, who said that the stimulus wasn't big enough to do enough. FDR also listened to those worried about the federal debt when he cut funding for programs that were working, prolonging the depression. It didn't get fixed until the government pumped money into the economy during WWII.Entrepreneurs don't stimulate anything if people have no money to buy. Because money recycles, government budgets don't work the same as those of individuals or businesses. If everybody who is able were working, less tax money would be required for necessary services. |
