If you have no need to go off road or to haul large amounts of dirt there is no reason to buy a truck. If you don't need to take 5 people with you then why buy a big SUV. Don't even consider a two seat roadster if you have three kids. Decide what type of car will meet your needs?Then you need to determine what you can afford. If you can't afford the high payments and insurance premiums on a new car then don't look at new cars, shop the used car market. Don't look at a Mercedes Benz if you can't afford to maintain the car.All of this takes a lot of research before you even step foot on the first dealer lot. You should contact a local Credit Union for financing advice and to apply for the loan. Once you know what loan amount they qualify you for you can begin to shop for the right car in the right price range.If you are new to the car buying experience spend a lot of time just looking. Watch the papers, check the online classifieds and walk the dealerships to familiarize yourself with what's out there available to you. Sit in the cars, drive the cars, gain your knowledge of cars by spending time researching them.Once you've narrowed it down to what you need, what you like and what you can afford the final step is to go find it. But be patient. There are thousands of cars for sale and none of them are so unique or special that you must buy it today. There is always tomorrow. If it's a deal today it will still be a deal tomorrow. If you lose this one, don't worry. There will always be another car and another deal somewhere down the road.
